Location data — essential for routing your report correctly
Animal type and condition — determines which organisation responds
Photo (if provided) — shared only with the assigned organisation

3. Legal basis for processing
Consent — you consent explicitly when submitting a report
Legitimate interests — improving animal welfare and road safety
Legal obligation — certain animal deaths must be reported to statutory authorities
4. Who we share your data with
Report data is shared with the responding organisation only (e.g., Scottish SPCA, local council, Transport Scotland, NatureScot). We share only the minimum necessary.
With research consent, anonymised data may be shared with universities and wildlife organisations. We never sell personal data or share your email with any third party.
5. How long we keep your data
Report data retained for 24 months. Email addresses deleted when report closes or after 24 months.
You may complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk | 0303 123 1113).
8. Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage and IndexedDB to save report data on your device for offline capability. This data does not leave your device unless you submit a report. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising technologies.
9. Security
Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS. No system is completely secure.
10. AI Processing
If you upload a photo, FaunaAlert uses TensorFlow.js to analyse the image locally on your device. Your photo is not sent to any server for AI processing. The AI suggestion is a guide only and does not affect how your report is processed.

1. About FaunaAlert
FaunaAlert is a reporting platform for animal incidents in Scotland and the UK, operated by FaunaAlert Ltd, registered in Scotland.
2. Not an emergency service
FaunaAlert is not an emergency service. Call 999 for immediate danger to life. Call Police Scotland 101 if an animal is causing a road hazard. FaunaAlert cannot guarantee response times.
3. Accuracy of reports
Deliberately false reports are prohibited and may result in suspension or referral to Police Scotland.
4. Appropriate use
Do not use FaunaAlert to submit false reports, scrape data, access admin systems without authorisation, or compromise the platform's ability to handle genuine incidents.
5. No guarantee of rescue or response
FaunaAlert routes reports but cannot guarantee any organisation will respond. FaunaAlert accepts no liability for third-party response decisions or outcomes.
6. Protected species
Certain species are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act 2004. Do not disturb, handle, or remove protected species.
7. AI species identification
The AI species suggestion is generated locally on your device using TensorFlow.js. It is a guide only and may be inaccurate. You are responsible for confirming or correcting the animal type before submitting your report. FaunaAlert accepts no liability for misrouting caused by an uncorrected AI suggestion.
8. Photo submissions
By submitting a photo you confirm you took it or have the right to submit it. You grant FaunaAlert a non-exclusive licence to use it for routing and, with consent, research.
9. Limitation of liability
FaunaAlert Ltd's total liability shall not exceed £100 for any claim. Nothing limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud caused by our negligence.
10. Governing law
Governed by the laws of Scotland. Disputes subject to Scottish courts.
